Canoe Bags

Theodore Roosevelt was President when the Willits brothers built their first canoe while school boys in Des Moines, Iowa. The year was 1905. The canoe, a 13 footer, was the beginning of what was to become a life long passion/obsession.

As I began the process of designing Canoe’s first game bag (The Willits 906™) my thoughts rewound back to the two brothers. If they had made a bag to fit into their canoes, what would it have looked like? What materials would they have used?

Here is what I do know. The craftsmanship would have been extraordinary. The canvas waxed and oiled, making it water resistant. Genuine leather integrated to protect corners, flaps and other areas susceptible to high wear. The final product; lightweight, functional, with sturdy leather handles and straps secured by brass buckles, assuring Canoe enthusiasts effortless travel.
