Canoe BagsTheodore Roosevelt was President when the Willits brothers built their first canoe while school boys in Des Moines, Iowa. The year was 1905. The canoe, a 13 footer, was the beginning of what was to become a life long passion/obsession. As I began the process of designing Canoe’s first game bag (The Willits 906™) my thoughts rewound back to the two brothers. If they had made a bag to fit into their canoes, what would it have looked like? What materials would they have used? Here is what I do know. The craftsmanship would have been extraordinary. Genuine leather integrated to protect corners, flaps and other areas susceptible to high wear. The final product; lightweight, functional, with sturdy straps secured by brass buckles, assuring Canoe enthusiasts effortless travel. It appears I just described the Canoe™ bag:
